My earlier ideas were quickly shutdown after I weighed the pros and cons of the different sub genres due to both these ideas having intense violence across the quayside meaning promoting business or tourism would be a tough task. After deciding on the platformer genre I looked into creating some mood boards to garner some ideas.
A simple quick mind map I made with screenshots from a variety of different platformers, but one quick correlation noticed was that nearly all of these platformers uses a cartoony art style with very few realistic art styles if any and it was a similar situation when googled as well. This mood board shows me the popular art styles in 2d side scrollers which tends to be the more cartoony styles as opposed to more realistic ones.
Another mood board I had created to gather ideas was one about box arts. Box arts are an importance piece of art due to it being first thing a potential customer will see thus it needs to be eye catching so that it lures the customer into that into having a look. Box arts tend to include the protagonist on the cover as they are the main character within the game, although games like Borderlands used a generic enemy as the cover.
The last mood board I created was one for the HUD (heads up display) of differenct games. Even though these games are from a few different genres from MOBAs to FPS. While games have many different types of HUDs according to their game, but overall they need to be clear and concise and while delivering the needed information to the player.
