I did a rough sketch of what a background would look like as from across the quayside as the runner run by.
The black arrow indicates there the runner will be runnin, but after I made this image I feel that that area needs to by widen slightly to place more emphasis on it rather than showing that much area of the road which is unnecessary. This would mean players would be able to keep track of the character easier. Some ideas I had for obstacles along the route was things such as bins, benches and open manhole covers etc, I felt these would be suitable as it wouldn't place anything weird along the quayside which may affect potential tourists hence the use of pretty typical objects along the quayside.
In this sketch I widen the path on which the character would be running across as mentioned previouly to place more ephamasis on the character, but I see that I accidentaly widen the river as well which needs to be corrected as the width of the river is unnecessary. From these two images I see that I need to carefully place the size of the images as the background does not need as much screen space as the path which the player runs along.
As seen in this endless runner game, "Robot Unicorn Attack", the path is clearly defined for the player with background imagery slightly blurred. Although with my project blurring the background may be detrimental for the attacting tourists part of the scenario. I could easily rectify this not blurring the background while still maintaining a focus on the character. |
