After I created the prototype maps for a brief test of sizing the maps and the look and feel of them in UDK I had to decide on the specific map design I was going to use for my mod. I needed to choose a map which would provide a decent amount of challenge for the player while being able to create it within the time constraint.
Prototype Map 1 - simplistic design with only 1 attack path for the A.I - I personally feel this map would prove too simple for a wave defence type game mode, although it should be easily completable within the time frame.
Prototype Map 2 - slightly more complicated compared to map 1 with a few more attack routes - bit more complicated, should prove to be a bit more of a challenge for the player, should still be completable within the timeframe I have left.
Prototype Map 3 - Urban area no clear line of sight - less scenic, simpler design I feel that this map would a good choice but I would need to create a few assets for the environment instead of using assets already in UDK, but due to bad time management I started this project later than I should've meaning I'm pressed for time to complete this project.
After looking at the time constraints and amount of work I still need to complete for this project I decided to go with map design 2 as it does not require any specific assets to be created although I can leave room for assets if I have enough time available. I also chose to use a height map size of 256x256 which felt the most suitible size. This was mostly due to my bad time managment which left with with little time left to complete this project.
