After adding the necessary IK to the joints, the next stage was to create the controls that my mech required. Creating the controls was fairly simple as I followed the basic rule of: shape and re-size the control for its purpose, position the control and finally freeze the transformations on the control. It is necessary to freeze the controls as having a "dirty" (not zeroed) channel box would make animating harder than it should be. Following these basic principles meant that I completed the controls fairly quickly and without any problems.
